This Privacy Policy explains how Examon by Jtutes ("Examon", "we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, stores, and discloses personal information. We are based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia and handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs).
1. What We Collect
Depending on how you use Examon, we may collect:
- account details, such as email address, name, and login credentials;
- student profile details, including school and subject preferences;
- learning activity, such as study progress, attempts, responses, and performance history;
- billing metadata from Stripe (for example plan type, payment status, transaction identifiers);
- technical usage data (device, browser, IP-derived metadata, session events, diagnostics).
We do not store your full payment card details. Payments are processed by Stripe.
2. How We Use Personal Information
We use personal information to:
- create and manage your account;
- deliver features such as lessons, practice content, and analytics;
- process subscriptions, renewals, and refunds;
- personalize and improve content quality and study recommendations;
- detect misuse, fraud, abuse, or security incidents;
- measure product performance and improve user experience.
3. AI Data Usage and Automated Processing
Examon uses third-party AI providers, including DeepSeek, OpenAI, and Anthropic, to generate questions and assist with marking. Student answers and prompts may be sent to these providers to produce educational outputs. This processing is necessary to deliver core AI functionality.
AI outputs can contain errors. Human review, educational judgment, and school guidance remain important.
4. Third-Party Services and Disclosure
We may disclose relevant data to service providers:
- Stripe for payments and subscription management;
- Supabase for database and authentication infrastructure;
- Vercel for hosting and delivery;
- PostHog for analytics and product insights;
- DeepSeek, OpenAI, and Anthropic for AI-assisted generation and marking.
We may also disclose data where required by law, legal process, or to protect rights, safety, and platform integrity.
5. Storage, Cross-Border Transfers, and Retention
Data is stored using cloud infrastructure, including Supabase and Vercel. Some servers and processors may be located outside Australia (including the United States and other regions where providers operate). By using Examon, you acknowledge that cross-border processing may occur.
We retain personal information for as long as needed to provide services, meet legal and accounting obligations, resolve disputes, enforce agreements, and maintain platform security. We may retain de-identified or aggregated analytics information for longer periods.
6. Cookies and Analytics
Examon uses cookies and similar technologies for authentication, session continuity, performance, and analytics. We use PostHog to understand feature usage and improve product experience. You can manage cookie settings through your browser; some features may not function correctly if cookies are disabled.
7. Children and Young People
Examon is designed for VCE students, many of whom are aged 16-18. We apply additional care to data handling for minors. Users under 13 require verified parental or guardian consent. If we learn that under-13 data was collected without consent, we will take steps to delete or de-identify it where possible.
8. Data Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards, including access controls, secure infrastructure providers, encrypted transport, and monitoring. No system is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for protecting your account credentials.
9. Your Rights Under Australian Privacy Law
Subject to law, you may request:
- access to personal information we hold about you;
- correction of inaccurate, outdated, incomplete, or misleading information;
- information about how your personal data has been handled.
